Why Ayurveda?
Leave it or change it.
In 2006, we changed. We let go of everything that brought disharmony and learnt to love our new project. We immersed ourselves in a new world. A world of a gigantic philosophy full of a kind of magic which gives us daily food for thought and allows us to ask: ‘How are you today?’ Many people never ask themselves this question and are quite surprised when asked directly. The automatic answer tends to be: ‘I’m fine, thank you.’ Behind the façade, however, things can often be quite different. There are times when we need to free ourselves and let go of the old so that we can make changes and learn to love something new and different. For us Ayurveda is a philosophy of life. It accompanies our every breath – guides us daily towards positivity. The way you start your day, whether you feel good or life passes you by – these are in your hand. Ayurveda helps to reconnect body, mind and spirit. You learn to be centred again and to develop your potential during all of life’s highs and lows – because the unexpected is often just around the corner. And that’s what happened to us. Our mother’s cancer diagnosis came entirely out of the blue, and we were absolutely unprepared for it. This was a moment when there seemed to be no way forward – the world stood still.
Love it.
At this crossroad, this twist of fate, our own attitude came into play: the philosophy of Ayurveda. At times like these, life’s essentials come into focus. Things that you can’t buy. You learn to appreciate good health, life, one’s friends. And that’s our why. When you are unwell, uncentred, life passes you by, a life you only have once. So use it. Now. If you do good, you can enjoy every moment and every second of your life. Your personal meaning of life becomes clear. This is why we need to invest in our health, in life and in experiences. Nothing is more precious. Live your life!
Pioneer of European Ayurveda®

Brigitte Mauracher
Pioneer of European Ayurveda®, wife and mother
The mastermind and pioneer who made European Ayurveda® possible was Brigitte Mauracher, our wife and mother who is always in our hearts; every day and with every step we take. Brought up in a nature-loving family, Brigitte’s interest in native medicinal herbs and their effects began when she was just a child. Ayurveda attracted her interest over 15 years ago, and she eventually became a committed devotee of this form of holistic healing. Brigitte Mauracher thought there was a reason we were born in Europe. ‘This is why we should work with the homegrown treasures that nature has given us.’ Her determination, relentless energy and spiritual affinity with nature made her a pioneer in the development of European Ayurveda® and the founder of the Sonnhof’s AyurvedaCentre.
