At the Ayurveda Resort Sonnhof, competence and individual diversity shape the yoga programme. The comprehensive philosophy incorporates effective, physical training with mental exercises, as seen in Ayurveda. Yoga is used as a tool to alleviate physical symptoms, such as insomnia or migraines, as well as effectively combating mood swings and inner unrest. As a result, yoga exercises feature alongside Qi Gong and the active outdoor programme as a daily aspect of all Sonnhof cures. In addition Yoga Specials, such as yoga in combination with meditation and dance, are offered at specific times during the year. Other specials include MediYoga, a programme developed by trainer Marion Grimm-Rautenberg, and a yoga weekend with Ursula Henn to discover your energy potential through Asana and Pranayama.
What is yoga?
The term yoga means ‘unity’ or ‘tension’. Guests harness themselves, figuratively speaking, to a way of life and the unity of all things.
Yoga is more:
High importance is placed on uniting body and soul through concentration, contemplation and meditation. This is combined with exercises incorporating conscious breathing patterns and movements.
Advantages of yoga:
Develop your strength
Reduce your weight – generally or focussed on specific areas of the body
Improve your figure
Alleviate symptoms such as migraines, insomnia, headaches, asthma
Eliminate depression through many different means
Deal more openly with yourself and others
Accept yourself as you are
Unite body, mind and soul
The meaning of breathing – Pranayama
Breathing should be deep and calm. Only the link between physical movement and breathing enables the body to release tension. Negative thoughts, stressful situations and unpleasant feelings make breathing irregular and shallow. Today our thoughts are constantly jumping from one thing to another; the Indians would say like monkeys in a tree. As a result it is often truly difficult to remain focussed – we are distracted by people, noises, images and smells. This constant dialogue takes place without us even noticing it. This only becomes evident with peace and time to consciously collect yourself.
Daily from 8 to 9am ‘Morning yoga stimulates circulation, improves blood flow to inner organs, exercises the muscular system and gets you in the mood for a vigorous day.' Daily from 5 to 6pm ‘Yoga in the evening has a calming and harmonising effect on the body.’ Daily from 8.30 to 9pm Evening meditation ends the day peacefully and prepares for a relaxing night’s rest.’

The shift between tension and relaxation during yoga exercises has a soothing effect on the organs and nervous system, establishing balance and equilibrium. Meditation further complements yoga exercises, creating new energy for the body and mind. Accumulated skills from yoga and the fresh energy from the meditation are then applied to circle dances. Prior experience not required.
Intensive daily yoga units
Circle dances from around the world (minimum attendance requirements)
